Conference interpreting - how does it work?

A conference interpreter sits in an interpreting booth paired with a second interpreter and translates exactly what the speaker is saying, in real time, to delegates via headsets.

Two interpreters are essential as they work in stints of approximately 20-30 minutes each. This work is highly skilled and very intensive.

Conference interpreting makes use of a type of interpreting called simultaneous interpreting.
