Tell us a bit about yourself…

I’m originally from Norfolk, where I grew up on a farm with my parents and twin sister. After finishing college I decided to study Spanish and Mandarin Chinese at the University of Leeds. I’m currently really enjoying city life, and love exploring new places in Leeds and Yorkshire.

How did you get into languages?

I have always enjoyed studying languages and going on French and Spanish exchanges at school. I particularly liked Spanish because of the accent, and I loved learning about Spanish and Latin American cultures. I decided to study Chinese at University as well after studying Chinese history for A Level. Learning about the history was fascinating, and I couldn’t wait to learn the language.

How are you finding working at Andiamo! so far, and what are you most looking forward to?

I have loved my time at Andiamo! so far. All my colleagues have made me feel really welcome. It has been great to work in a professional team who share a passion for languages. I’m looking forward to spending more time with the team, and learning more about the translation industry.

Where is your favourite place in the world and where would you like to travel to next?

My favourite place would be Harbin, a city in the north of China. The most famous attraction is the snow and ice sculpture festival, the largest of its kind in the world. I don’t think I’ll ever forget the size of the sculptures, a lot of them were bigger than buildings! The next place I want to travel to is the city of Chengdu in China, I would love to visit the Panda breeding centre there.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I love reading books in Spanish, or watching Chinese films. When I have a weekend free I also enjoy going for walks in the Yorkshire Dales, or visiting my parents in the Norfolk countryside.
