We have had an excellent experience using Andiamo's translation services. The team has been professional, responsive, and a pleasure to work with from start to finish.

Communication has been outstanding throughout the process. They kept us informed at every stage, responded promptly to our queries, and made the whole experience straightforward and stress-free. Their pricing is clear and transparent, with no hidden costs, making it easy to understand exactly what to expect. The service itself is simple to use, efficient, and delivered to a high standard.

We would highly recommend Andiamo to anyone looking for reliable, high-quality translation services and look forward to working with them again in the future.

We recently used Andiamo! for Japanese interpreting services. The interpreter took a careful approach to the assignment, making it easy to understand and incorporating great explanations during the tour. They chose their words well and provided excellent support to our guests, including sharing links to topics discussed on the day, after the assignment.

We were really impressed by how friendly and professional Andiamo were throughout the entire process. They went above and beyond with the planning, which was a huge help for us as it was our first time booking a service like this. Their quick responses meant we were able to meet our tight deadlines with ease. The translation service was excellent and exactly what we were looking for. Given the great value they offer, we can highly recommend them.

Monica from Andiamo! Language Service interpreted our meeting brilliantly. Her Italian was on point, prompt, professional and friendly. We could not have asked for any more!

I have been using the services at Andiamo! for several years now, mainly for interpreting for tribunal type hearings. I have always found them to be very professional, with very good customer service, quick to respond and very competitive on price. The interpreters that are used are of a very high standard for what I imagine is a very difficult role, particularly when using technical and medical terms.

Andiamo! thank you for helping me to source an Italian-English interpreter for my recent assignments. Amy Robinson, my case handler, was always at hand upon any request including at short-notice. All interpreters provided were professional and extremely helpful during all assignments allowing me to assist my client during a difficult time. I wouldn’t hesitate to use you again and I will certainly recommend to others in the future.

Just to say that I have really enjoyed working with Andiamo! – both the Tigrinya and the Somali interpreter you have provided have been excellent. Staff have been very happy with their understanding and supportive approach towards both the needs of the school and the needs of our students and their families. The Tigrinya interpreter has worked with us on several occasions now and has been really good at helping us understand the students’ backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. It has also always been easy to arrange bookings with you even at short notice.

I can confirm that our experience with Andiamo! was excellent. We urgently required the services of a Slovak Interpreter for a court hearing in Middlesbrough. We essentially gave Andiamo 2 days’ notice of our requirement. Was grateful that Andiamo were able to provide a interpreter at such short notice.

The interpreter attended court well in advance of the hearing, enabling us to have a conference with the client. The interpreter was very efficient and developed a good rapport with the client. We achieved the desired outcome thanks to the proficiency of the interpreter.

Overall the service provided by Andiamo was first class and I would highly recommend their services.

We have used Andiamo Language Services multiple times for different translation/interpretation needs that pop up on our cases, whether it be for a trial day in court to assist a lay witness, or an urgent translation of a written statement, they are always highly professional and deliver a high-quality service. Sarah is a pleasure to deal with and we have always found her service to be friendly, highly efficient, and very accommodating.

Consecutive interpreting

What is consecutive interpreting?

At your event, the interpreter will actively listen to the speaker while making notes. The speaker talks for around thirty seconds, then pauses, and the interpreter will interpret (translate verbally) what was said into the relevant language.

A second speaker may then respond to the first, which the interpreter can relay into the first speaker’s language again. Thanks to the interpreter, all parties can understand each other despite not sharing a language.

Time is also a factor in consecutive interpreting services. As everything is said twice (once by the original speaker and subsequently by the interpreter in another language) you should bear in mind that the length of your event may double in length.

Consecutive interpretation differs from simultaneous interpreting, which requires the interpreter to relay what is being said in one language into the target language in real time.

FAQs

What is the difference between an interpreter and a translator?

An interpreter translates spoken (or signed) dialogue, while a translator translates the written word. Each requires very different skill sets and specialist training.

An interpreter has to think on their feet and translate in real time, being conscious of the flow of the event they’re facilitating.

A translator translates all kinds of written documentation and focuses on conveying the meaning, style and brand voice whilst maintaining accuracy and consistency. They have time to perfect their translation over the course of the project.

Consecutive interpreting is typically used when the entire audience requires interpreting. The interpreter actively listens to the speaker while making notes. The speaker talks for around 30 seconds, then pauses. This is when the interpreter will interpret – or verbally translate – what was said into the relevant language(s).

A consecutive interpreter provides verbal translation of dialogue at events where a whole audience requires translation. They are trained solely to relay the exact information and never add in opinions or additional information. They listen to the speaker, relay the information while the speaker pauses and then continue in the same way.

The following conditions determine if consecutive interpreting is an appropriate solution:

  1. If an entire audience requires interpreting. For example, the speaker is English, talking to a Spanish-only audience. The interpreter will relay all the information in Spanish to the entire audience. No problems here. The downsides of this mode of interpreting arise if you have a mixed nationality audience, as every nationality there would have to listen to each language’s interpreting.
  2. In settings like HR meetings, court hearings, focus groups, factory tours etc.
  3. Where the interpreter can stand next to, or close to the original speaker.
  4. In situations where there is going to be time given for the interpreter to relay what the speaker has said to each language group in the audience.

Both types of interpreting are live. But there are significant differences:

Consecutive interpretation is when the speaker pauses to allow the interpreter time to relay the information to foreign listeners. It doesn’t usually require equipment.

Simultaneous interpretation is real-time interpreting and usually requires equipment such as booths, a PA system and headsets to ensure minimal interruption to the session. Simultaneous interpretation doesn’t include pauses and happens as though by magic, with the interpreters hidden in booths.
